 A Brief Biography of Our Pastor
In August of 1970 Russell Riggs was born to Pastor and Mrs. Glenn Riggs in the town of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. He spent his childhood in the home of a very busy and prominent pastor in the towns of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Kailua, Hawaii; and Winter Springs, Florida as his parents worked for the Lord in these towns. In 1989, at the age of 19 Pastor Riggs became the youth pastor of Starlight Baptist Church in Winter Springs, Florida. He started out with 4 teenagers and within 2 years the youth group had grown to average over 75 each week with a high day of 187 in his Sunday School Class. He served as youth pastor until 1995. In 1995, the Lord led Bro. Riggs to the town of Apopka, Florida where a young, baby church needed a pastor, and Apopka Baptist Temple became his first pastoral charge. He served there for 7 years and witnessed much growth and many blessings. While there he started Soldiers of the Cross Youth Camp and Rally Network. He also earned his PhD in Christian Counseling while serving the Lord in Apopka. In 1996, he married a pastor’s daughter named Christy who brought many strengths and talents to his ministry. In 2002, the Lord led Dr. Riggs to become the Senior Pastor of Orlando Baptist Temple and the President of Baptist Temple School. He is only the seventh man to fill this position since 1952. Dr. Riggs is known for his exciting and dynamic delivery of the word as he preaches the Gospel. His youthful humor and desire to help people has helped our church grow and be a pleasant place to worship. He is often sought after to speak in conferences, revivals, and various meetings abroad. Dr. and Mrs. Riggs have three children, Savannah born in 2000, Julian born in 2004, and Adrianna born in 2007.
